High Noon Express Terminal – Avalanche Repairs: Mount Ruapehu
RBS Group was engaged by Ruapehu Alpine Lifts to complete urgent repair works on the High Noon Express Terminal at the top of the Tūroa Ski Field, following significant damage caused by an avalanche in early 2021. The force of the avalanche had shifted the terminal building forward, requiring specialist structural remediation in a challenging alpine environment.
Working at altitude meant the project demanded meticulous planning around weather windows, snow conditions, and safe access. All materials, equipment, and tools were transported via helicopter, requiring precise coordination to ensure efficient load planning and safe delivery to the summit. Our team operated within tight timeframes, with three weeks of preparation and two weeks on site, adapting daily to rapidly changing mountain conditions.
The repair scope included jacking the building back into its correct position, re‑welding damaged structural members, injecting and stabilising pre‑cast panels, and re‑waterproofing the building envelope. These works restored the terminal’s structural integrity and ensured it was fit for continued operation in a high‑risk alpine zone.
This project highlights RBS Group’s capability to deliver complex, safety‑critical work in remote and extreme environments, combining technical expertise with careful logistical planning and strong collaboration with the client.
